FORTIFIED certificate renewal

FORTIFIED Certificate Renewal
Your FORTIFIED Roof designation is valid for five years. If your home is approaching that mark, a quick re-evaluation renews it for another five and keeps the wind-insurance credit you earned. I’m Cory with Coastal Evaluators, an IBHS-credentialed FORTIFIED Evaluator serving, the Eastern Shore and the Alabama Gulf Coast.
Why FORTIFIED certificates expire
A FORTIFIED Roof designation from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) is good for five years from the date it was issued. Many homes built or re-roofed after Hurricane Sally are reaching that five-year mark now. When the designation lapses, most insurers stop honoring the wind-and-hail premium credit that comes with it. Therefore, renewing on time protects real money.
What renewing protects
- Your insurance discount. Alabama requires insurers to offer premium credits for FORTIFIED homes. And keeping your designation active is what keeps that credit in place.
- Proof your roof still qualifies. A re-evaluation confirms your roof still meets the FORTIFIED standard after five Gulf Coast summers.
- Early warning. In addition, if something minor needs attention, you find out now, before it becomes a bigger repair.
How recertification works
- Tell me about your home. Fill out the short survey below, or book a time directly.
- I review your file. I review the pictures and documentation from the previous certification.
- I evaluate the home. Typically less than 30 minutes on site allows me to check against the current FORTIFIED Roof, Silver or Gold standard.
- You’re renewed. If it complies, then IBHS issues a new five-year designation to hand to your insurer.
Request your recertification

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my home is FORTIFIED?
Most homes built new or re-roofed to the standard in recent years carry a FORTIFIED Roof designation or higher. You can check your closing or roofing documents for a FORTIFIED certificate, or send me your address and I’ll look it up.
What does recertification cost, and how long does it take?
The on-site portion of the evaluation typically takes less than 30 minutes. Reach out for a current recert quote and for most homeowners it’s a fraction of what the wind-insurance credit is worth over another five years.
What if my roof needs a small repair?
I’ll tell you exactly what’s needed and why. On a well-built roof it’s usually minor — once it’s addressed, the designation renews.
Does the insurance discount really matter?
On the Gulf Coast, the wind portion of your premium is the largest part — and that’s exactly what a FORTIFIED designation discounts. Keeping it active is what keeps that savings in place year after year.
